Burleigh Community College
"nationally recognised sports college"

A Specialist Sports College

In 1997, Burleigh became one of the first six sports colleges in England. Since then, we have acquired a national and international reputation for delivering high quality, innovative and comprehensive programmes in sport and physical education. Our specialists schools status has also helped to raise achievement throughout the college. Each year, a range of exciting projects gives new opportunities to our students. The strength of the specialism is reflected across the curriculum with a focus on student leadership both in school and the wider community.  Students can nurture leadership qualities through a Sports Leader Award, Dance Leaders, Arts Leaders and Language Leader Awards.  Students also apply these qualities in supporting fellow students through an extensive peer mentoring programme.

Burleigh is host to the
School Sports Partnership involving 50 schools in Loughborough and it’s surrounding area as well as being the hub for a whole host of community sport activities.

Extensive
sport facilities include: a new sports centre, sports hall, gym, 25m heated indoor swimming pool, pitches, athletics track and floodlit all weather pitch.

Specialist Schools 5 Main objectives

Sports College Vision

Our ambition at ‘Burleigh’ is to develop a visible Sports College ethos throughout the school, our local community and school partnerships. To foster an ethos that inspires our students to raise standards of attainment in Physical education, Sport and Science providing a catalyst for whole school improvement. To provide a physically rich curriculum that embraces diversity in teaching and learning styles, imaginative and innovative use of technology, healthy living and leadership in all aspects of school life. We encourage our pupils through the catalyst of PE and Science to become independent learners, to develop life long healthy lifestyles and participants in sport and physical activity beyond school and into their adult lives. Through collaboration with our school sports partnership and our family of primary and secondary schools we aim to drive the standards of teaching and learning in PE, to play a lead role in supporting the national PE, school sport and club link strategy and to lead in the provision of vocational learning in sport and leisure. We believe we are able to create and deliver a shared vision for specialist status, helping devise a strategic plan that will inspire our young people that are faced with a society that is culturally and technologically changing that drives standards of achievement across the whole school  that will establish ‘Burleigh’ as a lead establishment for the 21st Century.
