Year 10 & 11

Key Stage 4

We provide, in Years 10 and 11, a curriculum which allows choice, options within broad subject areas and some compulsory subjects. This ensures breadth and balance, provides an ideal foundation for specialist study in the Sixth Form (Years 12 & 13) and prevents the closing of any doors to future aspirations.

Students generally take 10 GCSEs or equivalent as follows:-

Compulsory Subjects

English Language, English Literature, Double
Science (2 GCSEs), Mathematics, Physical Education,
Citizenship, R.E.

Options

Modern Foreign Languages - French, German, Spanish, Gujarati and Bengali are all offered.
Arts - Design and Technology, Art, Pottery, Textiles, Graphics, Resistant Materials, Food Technology, Design, Electronics Systems and Control, Product Design.
Expressive Arts - Drama, Music, Expressive Arts, Dance.
Applied GCSE I.C.T
Humanities - Business Studies, History, Geography, Humanities, R.E., Sociology, Business Studies, Health and Social Care.

Further choices will be made from these subjects. Students will be encouraged to follow a broad, balanced curriculum in order to prepare for choicespost-16. Gifted and talented students will be able to follow a curriculum with an emphasis on their strengths. Each year the curriculum is reviewed and minor changes made will be published in the Key Stage 4 Booklet issued in December.

Students are usually taught in classes with others of similar ability. The exception is where patterns of choice result in there being only one class in a particular subject. We expect students to undertake at least 10 hours a week of homework. Students are given a Planner at the start of the year to record homework and set targets and we ask parents as well as tutors to monitor closely the use of the Planner.
