Use of Students' Photographs Policy

Over the past few years there has been growing concern regarding the publication of students' photographs and the naming of students in the media and on websites.  We live in a world where images can be easily transferred, changed and used inappropriately.  Also publication of names, together with a photograph does mean that access to students could be gained.

Consequently the Governors have introduced the following policy:

(a)              Written parental consent should be obtained before photographs of students can be used in the media, in school publications or on any school website.

(b)              A College form has been introduced which should be sent to parents in advance of the photograph being published.  These forms will be kept in G2.

(c)               It is also strongly advised that where a student is named in an article etc., a photograph should not be used.  Where a photograph is used the student should not be named.

(d)              It is advisable that photographs should be of groups of students, rather than individuals.

(e)              This policy applies from 1 January 2003 and photographs that were taken from that date or used before that date do not apply to this policy.
