Trust Status at Burleigh Community College
8th May 2008
Burleigh Community College continues to work with its group of potential partners to gain Trust Status.
In January Burleigh was given the go ahead by the Department for Children, Schools and families (the DCSF) to explore the possibility of achieving this excellent opportunity.
The College has made links with Loughborough University, William Davis, Astra Zeneca, Leicestershire PCT, the Football Association, the NSPCC and Leicestershire County Council together with Limehurst High School and Garendon High School. In June and July the College will begin formal consultation with Staff, Students, parents and the Community to decide whether to make statutory proposals to change status and organise a Trust.
"This is an exciting time for Burleigh and for the education of young people in Loughborough" said John Smith the Principal. "It is so positive to see how many organisations and businesses have come forward to become partners".
"There is so much potential now to create much more joint-up thinking and to ensure the education is cohesive from 11 – 18. Considerable economies of scale can be achieved and the Trust will be in a strong position to attract large developmental grants. The Trust partners will bring enormous expertise and opportunity and I am confident that everyone will be a winner".
Burleigh is committed to raising standards. Last year the College was the most improved School in the County and one of the most improved Schools in the Country. Gaining Trust Status will have a powerful impact to keep this momentum going.
Formal Consultation will commence in June and this will be a good opportunity for the public to be given more information and for news to be shared.
