A consultation has been launched this week on the admissions policy for the 11-19 Thorpe Hill Federation.
Because the Federation is expecting increased demand for places with the all through 11-19 education now on offer at Thorpe Hill, the purpose of the Code is to ensure that places at Thorpe Hill are allocated and offered in an open and fair way.
Mark Sutton, Federation Principal said “This is an exciting time for the Federation but also for the families of Loughborough. We are doing this now to keep in line with the changes being made in the other secondary schools in the Loughborough, Quorn and Barrow area. Whilst Limehurst and Woodbrook Vale are consulting on changing their age range to 11-16 from 2013, parents will still be able to choose to transfer their children to Thorpe Hill in 2013 and in 2014 (when students will be able to join Year 9 as well as Year 10)”
Thorpe Hill also has a thriving sixth form and there are places for up to 300 students to join at the age of 16.
Applications are accepted from anywhere in the Loughborough, Quorn and Barrow area and indeed wider afield.
Mr Sutton continued “We are committed to ensuring that all parents have the information they need to be able to make an informed choice about all the options available to them at the ages of 11, 14 and 16. We are very keen to get views on the proposed policy and invite comments by e-mail me on info@burleigh.leics.sch.uk or by writing to me at Burleigh Community College”
A copy of the proposal can be viewed on the Federation’s websites for Garendon High School www.garendon.leics.sch.uk and Burleigh Community College www.burleigh.org.uk or hard copies are available by telephoning 01509 554400. The consultation will close on 20th March 2012.
